KidsSmile Paediatric Dental

Why are we worried about baby teeth?

Baby teeth are essential because they reserve space for permanent adult teeth. Baby teeth typically start erupting when a child is between six to 12 months. Most children have all of their baby teeth by age three.

The Importance of Baby Teeth

Even before your child has teeth, cleaning their gums and mouth is crucial as it helps prevent bacteria and disease. As soon as your child starts developing teeth, we invite you to bring them in to see our paediatric dentists.

Children’s teeth require the same consistent care as adult teeth. Without proper oral hygiene and routine dental check-ups, baby teeth can develop cavities, become infected or fall out prematurely.

Losing a baby tooth prematurely can lead to problems like:

  • Speech development issues
  • Difficulty chewing
  • Teeth shifting and misalignments

Again, routine check-ups can help prevent these issues before they start or have a chance to progress.
