Types of Tooth Extractions
There are two types of tooth extractions: simple and surgical. A simple tooth extraction involves loosening and pulling a tooth. With local anesthesia, this treatment is quick and painless. Surgical extractions might require sedation and involve removing teeth below the gumline, like an impacted wisdom tooth.
To determine if your child needs an extraction, we perform a thorough examination and take x-rays of their mouth. Before the procedure, we administer local anaesthesia, so your child doesn't feel any pain or discomfort during treatment. Nitrous oxide or care under general anaesthesia are also a great option to reduce anxiety and provide additional relaxation during treatment.
Tooth Extraction Recovery
After a tooth extraction, kids should drink plenty of water and avoid hard or crunchy foods. We also recommend not using straws or placing anything in the mouth that can irritate the extraction site.
Slight soreness is expected, but if persistent pain and swelling occur, please get in touch with your paediatric dentist as soon as possible. Recovery from a tooth extraction is usually quick, and patients can return to normal activities in a few days.
We look forward to welcoming you to KidsSmile!
